Silver Arowana(OSTEOGLOSSUM BICIRRHOSUM)
Silver Arowana is a South American freshwater fish. The generic name OSTEOGLOSSUM means "Bone-Tongued" and the specific name Bicirrhosum means "Two barbels". This South American species is native to the Amazon, Essequibo & Oyapock basin, Branco river. Arowana are some time called "Dragon Fish" because their shiny, armor-like scales and double barbells are reminiscent of descriptions of dragons in East-Asian folklore.
Now, How to care the Giants? Before keep a monster u need a large tank/pond setup. Minimum tank will be a 6ft/2ft/2ft (L/B/H) for a single species of silver Arowana. Water should be soft slightly acidic (6-7) fresh water or slightly black water by induced tannin extract. High filtration needed. Sump system/canister filter will be a good option. Top filter can be used by restricting the direct water flow. Minimum 30% syphoning needed on weekly basis to control perfect water parameters. They like clear water with low water flow. Well as they have some serious trophy on high jump ; please cover the tank properly.
Second thing is the feeding issues ; Well they are real hunters. If you think your silver Arowana will accept dry pellets happily , no they don't. A 5-6 inches Silver Arowana will accept small live fishes, Blood worms and occasionally chopped shrimp. Now its up to owners training that how quick u can train your dragon to accept dry pellets. A dragon trainer can have some scratches on his/her finger but its a awesome feeling if u can trained the dragon hand feeding.
What about the tank mates? well for a giants its difficult to choose. a shoal of big size dollar looks good ( u certainly need a 6 Ft. ) . Bichir for bottom of tank.
