Severus(Previously known as Cichlasoma severum), is a species of tropical freshwater cichlid native to the upper Orinoco and upper Rio Negro basins in south America. It was discovered by johann jakob Heckel in 1840. An Austrian taxidermist, zoologist. The original Severum presents a greenish body color with a yellowish gold belly. Juveniles display eight dark and black vertical bands along their sides, though these bands are generally fade as the fish ages into maturity. For those bands they also known as 'Banded Cichlid'
