Origin – It is native to the Amazon River drainage in Brazil, Peru, Paraguay, Bolivia and    

                Northern Argentina.

 Natural environment – The fish can be found in slow moving still backwater including, ponds,

                                             Small lakes, and streams In the wild

Practical tank setup ideas – Fresh water planted /wood setup

                                             Minimum tank size should be 2/1/1 ft. for a group of 8-10

Water condition- soft, neutral to slightly acidic water

Temperature- 22–26 °C

Size at maturity – 2 inch

Expected life span – 4-5 years

Tank mates – tetras/ rainbows/small corycats/ barbs/small cichlids like Remirozi etc.

 

Food habits – omnivores, live / frozen bloodworms, flakes, small / powdered dry foods

Filtration system – HOB or canister according to tank size

 

*Special Notes- They will tend to nip at the fins of fish with long, wavy fins

                     Small sized / micro fishes not recommended as tank mates
