Origin – They are found in South America in the La Plata region of Argentina, Paraguay, and

             South-eastern Brazil In the wild, they are commonly found in rivers, ponds, lakes, and 

             Streams

Natural environment – freshwater streams with little/heavy planted areas

Practical tank setup ideas – – Fresh water planted /wood setup

                                             Minimum tank size should be 2/1/1 ft. for a group of 6-8

 

Water condition- They are a freshwater fish

Temperature- 22–30 °C

Size at maturity – 3 inches

Expected life span – 5-6 years

Tank mates – Large tetra/ small cichlids like remirozi /danisoni barb/tiger barb

 

Food habits – omnivores, live / frozen bloodworms, flakes, small / powdered dry foods

Filtration system – HOB or canister according to tank size

 

 

*Special Notes- They will tend to nip at the fins of fish with long, wavy fins. Do not kept with small Rasboras/ Tetras/ Minnows. Occasionally can nip plant leaves too. Small sized / micro fishes not recommended as tank mates
