Origin – It is native to the Paraguay River basin of south-central Brazil Paraguay and Northeast Argentina, but there are also populations in the upper ParanĂ¡ and Paraiba Do Sul Rivers
Natural environment – fresh water stream
Practical tank setup ideas – semi planted/dense planted/wooden setup tanks. Minimum tank size 2/1/1 ft. for a group of 8-10
Water condition - Neutral to slightly acidic pH, fresh water
Temperature - 22–30 °C
Size at maturity – 2 inches
Expected life span – 5 years
Tank mates – tetras/large barbs/Cory cats/large rainbows
Food habits – live / frozen bloodworms, flakes, small / almost fine powdered dry foods/daphnia
Filtration system – HOB or canister according to tank size
*Special Notes- They will tend to nip at the fins of fish with long, wavy fins. The black tetra was also used to make genetically modified fish sold As Glow Fish (fluorescent colored fish). Small sized / micro fishes not recommended as tank mates.
